The short version. TV Remote does not ask you to create an account and does not collect your name, email address or contacts. The details of the TVs you pair with — their names, addresses and the security keys used to control them — are stored only on your own device and are never sent to us.
The app shows advertising and reads a small remote configuration file. Those two features involve Google, and are described in full below.
1. Who this policy covers
This policy applies to the TV Remote mobile application for Android and iOS, published by CodeBitMatrix (“we”, “us”). It does not cover your television, its manufacturer’s software, or any streaming service you open through the app — those are governed by their own policies.
2. Information stored on your device
The following is written to your phone’s private app storage. It stays there, it is not transmitted to us, and it is deleted when you uninstall the app.
| What | Why it exists |
|---|---|
| Names, IP addresses, model names and Wi‑Fi MAC addresses of TVs you pair with | So the app can find and reconnect to your TV, and wake a Samsung TV from standby |
| Pairing credentials — a security certificate and private key for Android TV, an access token for Samsung | So you only pair once per TV instead of every time you open the app |
| Your preferences: theme, vibration, power‑button mode | So the app behaves the way you set it |
| When a rewarded ad unlock expires, and a count of successful sessions | To keep unlocked buttons available, and to decide when to ask for a store review |
The private key generated for Android TV pairing never leaves your device. It is what proves to your TV that the remote is the one you approved.
3. Your local network
To find TVs, the app looks around the Wi‑Fi network your phone is joined to. It reads your phone’s own Wi‑Fi address, sends discovery requests, and connects directly to TVs it finds. This all happens on your local network.
We do not receive, record or transmit your network layout, your IP address range, or a list of the devices on it. On iOS the system will ask your permission before the app may browse the local network; on Android this is covered by the nearby‑devices and Wi‑Fi permissions.
4. Advertising
The app is free and is funded by advertising supplied by Google AdMob. Google, acting as an independent controller of this data, may collect and process:
- your device’s advertising identifier
- device and operating‑system information
- your IP address, and a coarse location derived from it
- information about ads shown, viewed and interacted with
We do not receive this data ourselves, and we cannot identify you from it. We see only aggregate earnings reports.
Your choices about ads
- In the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, the app shows Google’s consent form the first time it runs. You may accept or refuse personalised advertising, and you can change your mind later by reinstalling the app or resetting your advertising identifier.
- Anywhere, your device settings let you reset your advertising identifier or opt out of personalised advertising — under Settings → Privacy → Ads on Android, or Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking on iOS.
- Refusing personalised ads does not restrict the app. You will still see advertising, but it will not be tailored to you.
Google’s handling of this data is described at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
5. Remote configuration
The app uses Firebase Remote Config to read settings we can change without releasing an update — for example, turning advertising off, or marking an old version as no longer supported. Fetching those settings sends Google a randomly generated installation identifier along with basic device and app‑version information.
This identifier is not linked to you, and we use it for nothing other than delivering configuration. The app contains no analytics or crash‑reporting software, and we do not track how you use it.
6. Store reviews
The app may occasionally ask you to rate it. The rating form is presented by Google Play or the Apple App Store, not by us — we never see what you type, and whether you leave a review is entirely your choice. The app records only a count of successful sessions and the version last asked about, both stored on your device, so that you are not asked repeatedly.
7. What we do not do
- We do not require an account, a sign‑in, or any personal detail.
- We do not collect your name, email address, phone number or contacts.
- We do not record what you watch, or which apps or channels you open.
- We do not use analytics, crash reporting, or advertising software beyond what is described in sections 4 and 5.
- We do not sell or share personal information, as those terms are defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act.
8. Children
TV Remote is a general‑purpose utility and is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age where you live). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, please contact us and we will look into it.
9. Your rights
Because we hold no personal data about you, there is generally nothing for us to retrieve, correct or erase. You retain full control over what the app stores:
- Delete everything the app has saved — uninstall the app, or clear its storage in your device settings.
- Remove one TV — open the device list and choose Forget this TV.
- Remove all pairing data — use Settings → Reset pairing identity.
For data held by Google as a result of advertising or remote configuration, please exercise your rights directly with Google using the link in section 4. If you are in the EEA, the UK, California or another region with statutory privacy rights, you may also contact us at the address below.
10. Data retention and security
Data stored by the app remains on your device until you delete it, either by using the options above or by uninstalling. It is held in the app’s private storage area, which other apps cannot read on a normally configured device.
Connections to your TV are made on your local network. Where your TV supports encryption, the app uses it; some TV manufacturers only offer unencrypted connections on the local network, and in those cases the app follows what the TV supports.
11. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the revised version will be published at this address with an updated date at the top. Material changes will also be noted in the app store listing. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the revised policy.
